Gee, that scene was on most of the PD tapes I have. Good cartoon nonetheless.

Really? On PD tapes/dvds I've alway seen a very good copy with original titles, that only included part of this scene.

The available NTA copy has the scene. The one with the original Paramount titles that's on most PD DVDs with the cartoon doesn't (why someone decided to edit that scene out in a cartoon where the cat ends up dead anyway is a mystery all by itself).

I never heard of this cartoon before but i'm kinda impressed that this part is missing in some copies.

Thanks a great deal Andrea.

The gaping splice that occurs where this scene would've gone in the common "original titles" copy convinced me that Something was mssing, but I didn't know what.

I don't think this was censorship, but possibly a splice problem that often happens to cartoons of 16mm origin when they get dumped on zillions of dollar DVDs.

Other examples:

The Dollar DVD copy of Little Lulu's A Scout with the Gout has a splice that eliminate's part of Lulus song at the end (it cuts from "we certainly did outfox her" to "but as we march on crutches straight home to the doctor"). I got another copy in a trade that has the whole thing unspliced.

The most common PD copy of Land of the Lost Jewels is simply riddled with splices.

I'm not sure if Andrea has an uncut copy or not, but I'm fairly certain A Mutt in a Rutt is also missing footage.

In the heaven dream sequence, when the St. Bernard looks up Dogface's record and begins chewing him out with a string of higher-vocabulary words, there is an abrupt cut from Dogface looking up at the camera horrified to the St. Bernard holding a martini glass with a red nose and relieved look on his face, suggesting an edit.

Kevin, you rule!

I've always suspected that something was cut from "A Mutt in a Rutt" during that sequence.
I'll have an uncut copy pretty soon in my hands and be able to see if something is really missing.

About the cut in "Naughty but Mice", I really think that the footage was indeed censored from the cartoon. In fact, the sequence is not missing in the 16mm faded prints but in the beautiful print with original titles that is also availabe in many PD tapes/DVDs.

On the UM&M print of Pal's "Jasper and the Haunted House", the opening dialouge before they see Jasper has Blackbird's (the crow on Professor Scarecrow's shoulder) complete line: "Yeah, what's that smell in the landscape?" When the orginal print is seen as an extra the offical expanded edition of "The Puppetoon Movie" DVD, it is almost spliced out: "Yeah, what's that--" and abrubtly stops to the next shot.

And what's missing on all prints, both Paramount and UM&M, is the complete zooming out of the billboard for the fake "Spook's" pie.
